The beauty of the tumult
Paved liberally before me
Mapped paths rerouted
And potentialities unrealized
Dim though they were
So my stoic tread passed
Allied with arrogance
Nurtured by indignation
Into idealism
Rare in form in me
This exotic emotive entropy
This turbulent facade
Most convenient to assume
Could not outwit my consciousnessThe banality of the calm
Purged listlessly what was
Now surveys a dank meadow
Green not with life but covetousness
And bitter leaves
Now unlike nothing
Doubt allies with time
It decays matter’s crescendo
It fades without grace
Into the dregs
Of pining
The brittle cache
Within a broken heart
For that feeling now lost
my father is
a soldier
he considers
the skeleton
of a butterfly
as a parade
to his war
it is a beautiful
idea but it is
only greatest in
the imagination.
it’s said that in the case of homeostasis
equilibrium equates to death, and that our bodies
are meant to feel every sensation, take it and make it
a part of ourselves, adjust to world around us,
but I’ve sadly come to know nights like these
where I find I simply stare and think of nothing,
simply nothing, by intention or by default
these thoughts shoot blanks at the page
and I’m left a false sense of satisfaction
with the words I write, until I realize I still feel
nothing; nothing has changed in these days
that pass, and by the end of each week
when the cheers should begin, I find myself alone
relapsing on empty thoughts repeating
over and over that I am nothing, I have become
no one, and I am only a disappointment
to the progress of yet another half-lived week;
a disappointment to myself, to my family,
and to the opportunities I cannot see,
in this sense of nothing, I am at an equilibrium,
a plateau that flatlines at failure, stopping far below
the high line of expectation, and so this nothing
this constant, this must be the death.
Put coal in your palm
and get angry
until you make diamonds
but don’t stop there
keep compressing
keep pushing
these perfect little tumors of humanity
until they’re buried in your palms
like a psyhic
because you’ll need
all the gilts
and glamour
and shit stars are made of
to ever lead someone through the darkyou bastard
you martyr
you fucking drunkard
you broken headed
empty mouth’d
recycled same old sigh
bastardburn coal
down to embers
and keep warm
curling yourself over
in embers
dying cold
instead of
crafting anythingyou bastard
you drunkard.
“Everything will be okay,” I said to her.
Tears ran down her face, and she cried uncontrollably.
“How?! I just lost everything I loved”, she yelled.
“I know he hurt you, but he still loves you.”
“No he doesn’t, because if he did, I wouldn’t be crying right now.”
“But look at all the times he has made you smile and laugh. Those outweigh all of this.”
“But this hurts the most! I can’t live without him.”
“Yes you can. You lived without him before you met him-“
”- But now I don’t want to,” she exclaimed, cutting me off.
“I can’t tell you what you want and what you don’t want, all I can tell you is that everything will be better. You’ll see.”
“But-“
”- But nothing”, I said, cutting her off. “Just breathe.”
“I can’t.”
“Do it with me. Inhale.”
We inhale.
“Good. Now exhale.”
We exhale.
“Great. Now don’t you feel somewhat better?”
“I guess.”
“It’ll be better, I promise.”
But what I really wanted to tell her was to let him go- he had his chance and he messed it all up. That she didn’t deserve to cry over a boy. She was too beautiful for that. But I didn’t. How could I?
So Thanksgiving break is here for some of us which means lots of free time to hang out on Tumblr and maybe a little time to spend with your family.
If you’re lacking on reading material I would suggest following Spilled Ink Prose and maybe checking out the archives. Spilled Ink, the main site, is for everything: poetry, prose, spoken word videos/audios, projects, etcetera. Spilled Ink Prose is strictly that: prose. So, if that sounds like your kind of blog feel free to go take a look.
If you’re lacking on things to write about, check out our recent post right here about some of the projects (lord knows a post with all of them would be infinite…) going on in the community currently.
In particular Spilled Ink has put out two projects for the month of November that are still going on. Appreciation of the Future and Become the Tree. Check out the links for more information!
You can also visit this page to see other blogs we suggest you follow. Some offer more reading material on your dash, prompts, cues, projects, and some even accept submissions. If you haven’t followed BurningMuse in particular yet, we definitely suggest doing so.
Spoken Word Saturday. Here is a list of last Saturday’s participants. How about spending a little bit of your night catching up and giving them some love. :)
All links go directly to their Spoken Word Saturday post! Links are listed in order of time they were posted, from earliest to latest.

So here we are, introducing yet another tag we want you to track! #TWCP
This tag is a very limited tag. It is to be used solely for projects created by those in the writing community. Spilled Ink and Burning Muse (go follow and support this new blog aiming to help the community!) post a good amount of projects and so this tag will bring all of them together. This is not to say that only these two blogs can use the tag. If you put out a project for the writing community, even if your blog is only a personal blog (like Travis for example and his Obsessed with Words project), then tag it with #TWCP!
The thing about this tag, though, is that it is (yes we’re repeating ourselves, but we want to make this clear) SOLELY for projects. Do not post your poetry and prose pieces and tag them with #TWCP. If you decide you want to use this tag for your own project we ask that you PLEASE have a tag ready for people to use.So, for example: Spilled Ink puts out a project for November. We create a post, fill in all of the details (if there are any deadlines, requirements, requests, etc.), we tag that post with #TWCP but then within the post we’ve already explained that we want anyone who’s decided to participate to use the tag #spilledinknovember. And that second tag, the one that is specific to the title of the project, that is the one we’d be tracking and reblogging from.
Because we really do not want the #TWCP tag to become cluttered we have decided that when we are looking for pieces to reblog concerning any projects that are out, we will go to the project specific tag. If something is tagged with #TWCP as well, we will not reblog it. So basically what we’re asking you to do here is pay attention and follow the directions.
Concerning people who want to use the #TWCP tag for their own projects, we ask that you include as many details as possible. Like we’ve already said, please state any deadlines if they exist, requirements for project participants, a separate tag for the particular project, etcetera.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions (not just about this new tag, but about Spilled Ink in general) please let us know!
- Spilled InkFeel free to reblog this to spread the word!
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY. This tag is for projects ONLY. Not the pieces that are stemmed from those projects. The tag will become cluttered and pointless. Each project should be given a specific tag to use.

I held your name at the tip of my tongue
but it seems that I have swallowed it
I’m not sure but I cannot find it there
it seems as gone as last summer’s wind
my recall of faces is like paint by number
without shading or gradation
or is chipped like an unrestored fresco
missing its nose or chin
so if ever I see you again
and do not know your name
or I gaze too hard upon your face
it’s not that I did not love you once
Vices and Virtues Participant list has been posted. Thanks to all who wrote a piece! Please check out the incredible entries.
In light of My Ashes Should Be Eaten being recently featured, I thought why waste an opportunity to share my little blue tag with the community?
- [In the form of links to pieces written by you—my peers. All Pioneer participants will be linked to on my featured piece. I will also include a link to the project details page on the piece—which will include links to ALL participants.]
So without further ado, here is my new community project idea [name inspired by Plato]. I hope that you will consider participating:
- Write a piece about seeing the world [a person, place, or thing] from a different perspective. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction, prose, poetry, or list.
- Examples would be: A personal experience, conversation, a news story that blew your mind, writing fiction from the point of view you would not usually express.
- Please tag your post with shadowsonthecavewall and burningmuse.
- Pioneer Participants will be anyone who posts before Midnight next Sunday [US Nov 13, 2011]. After that point the project will remain open and general participants will be linked to on the project details page.
- Please feel free to share this with anyone who might be interested, or if you have questions.
Thank you guys! I hope everyone will consider participating—especially if you have not participated in one of my community writing projects before.
More writing projects can be found: Here
This is a project the Spilled Ink mods will be tracking! Post your pieces and please follow the guidelines.
The particular tag we at Spilled Ink will be tracking and reblogging from will be #shadowsonthecavewall but please notice that she also requests you tag with #burningmuse!
