We all know how hard it is to get started in the community. It’s all about sharing your poetry and prose, your ink, but not just that. It’s about getting your words read, making friends, and finding your place. There are many blogs out there aimed to do just that, as well as blogs aiming to inspire writers. Below are only some.
“You In Second Person is all about finding and promoting all of the excellent examples of creative writing on Tumblr which make use of second-person narrative. We want more people to be exposed to this less-used but exciting form of writing. We accept submissions and recommendations.”
“Yeah Write! is a community creative writing blog for aspiring writers. Yeah Write! posts twice daily writing prompts to which followers can submit stories, as well as advice, links, videos, book reviews, articles, ‘bookgasms’, and other reading- and writing-related content. Whether you hope to be a famous author or just want to improve upon a hobby, Yeah Write! is a great place to start!”
“Tumblr Fiction strives to discover and promote the very obscure Fiction writers in our writing community. If enough of us can come together to write more and share and read each others work, then we can achieve the #Fiction tag recognition in Featured tags. Thus our own little nook in the Tumblr community. It’s up to each of us to take the steps to give our writing, and Fiction, a voice.”
“Notetotheeditor is a collaborative blog dedicated to featuring unknown writers. It is not a rag on editors, but rather an opportunity to expand the tumblr writing community by spotlighting writers without a large following yet. There are some amazing writers out there still to be discovered. We strive to give credit where well deserved credit is due.”
Write For You“Write For You was created in order to give writers a community where they could share their works and ideas. At this blog, you are able to submit your own works (fiction and non-fiction), your own prompts, tips and tricks to help others as well as any other writing-related material. Write For You also has a Featured Prompt of the Month which enables writers and their personal Tumblr pages to be featured. Many other interactive tools are to come such as giveaways, editing workshops and much more! Come check out Write For You and join writers like you.”
Velvet Blory
Velvetblory is a new site/literary Quarterly designed to promote the best writing on the web and that of its own collective. We aim to help new writers receive helpful, constructive feedback on their writing, guiding them and allowing them to (hopefully) see their name in print. Any writers that we do include in our quarterly go on to be promoted via VelvetBlory and receive copyright evidence. You can check out our #1 issue or the site to have a look for yourself.
- A blory is a kind of mongrel-mix of short-story, flash-fiction and poetry writing. We publish a Blory everyday Mon-Fri and the best ‘Blories’ make it into our Quarterly- The VelvetBlory Blue Book. To submit tag #blory or via our page.
- We do not follow ANY writers. We will pull directly from the #Prose and #Poetry tags [using the “show all posts” option]. We want to ensure that everyone has a fair shot.
- Burning muse is dedicated to featuring the work of writers who [we feel] are talented, fresh, add to the community, and/or may have been overlooked. We understand that the Tumblr bots are not always reliable, and the Tumblr Editors—for the #Prose and #Poetry feature tags—are unpaid volunteers [who deserve our thanks!] with a lot on their collective plates.
- Burning muse is not meant to undermine or criticize the editors. It’s simply a nice way to expose the community to some of the fantastic members who may have slipped under the radar.
- We also provide Tiny Reviews and Community Writing Projects.
If you feel that your blog serves the writing community then please do not hesitate to message us and we will be sure to check your site out. Also, if you know of a blog that has personally inspired you or helped you as a writer and do not see it on this list, please send us the link.
Hopefully this list will continuously grow and as it does you can find the links to these great sites on this page at any time!
