Still waiting

at punishment

fall 
  on 
    deaf 
      ears
        my dear

I am slightly amused
at the way old habits
revive
even though they were
shot down so many times
in the past

I am not frightened by
idle threats
conversations ended abrupt-
ly
insinuations and inappropriate
            adjectives

I may not be a saint
but experience has taught me
