do you remember that time we went on a date to that retro diner? you were wearing those rugged jeans, and sneakers with the laces sloppily tied. i can’t remember if i was captivated by the intoxicating scent of your cologne, or the sharp definition of your jawline. each time our eyes met, your lips curved into that smirk and i knew i’d be damned if i kept falling deeper into desire. it was all too much but never quite enough, from the way you chuckled to the way your fingertips would momentarily brush over my own. the atmosphere was nostalgic by default, but looking at you i couldn’t feel anything but overwhelming bravery. so charming you were; so curious i was. the only solution would have been kisses trailing down the neck, but we settled for the echoes of distant music and the accumulation of silence between us. we shared laughs but stole subtle glances like lovestruck thieves. with a warm smile and a determined gaze i asked you, “if this is the last time we see each other, what about me, would you remember the most?” you looked down to the table, noticeably deep in thought as your physical expression shifted towards apathy. smoothly, you replied, “if anything - i’ll remember the way you say my name. and how it’s said with a tone of innocence. it’s different. and i’ll never forget it.” and with that, you stood up and pressed your lips against my forehead before walking away. i watched until you turned the corner.

never to be seen again.
